You can create a custom Data Track by clicking the icon on the bottom right corner of the Record tab in Context.

You can also create custom Data Tracks when you build or edit an Annotation by clicking "Select Data" on the Annotation creation screen (accessed by clicking the icon to the left of the Data Track icon on the Record tab), then clicking the "+" icon.

Custom Data Tracks come in 5 types, represented by the 5 icons at the top of the create screen:

  • Moment

  • Duration

  • Number

  • Scale

  • Yes/No

Below is how each type works:

Moment

Use this to mark something that happens at a specific point in time
(e.g., panic attack, migraine started, had coffee, took medication).

  1. From Record, tap the compose button.

  2. Under Selected Data, tap Select Data

  3. You can choose to add pre-built Data Tracks or create a new one by tapping the plus (+) icon on the bottom right.

  4. Select Moment as the type.

  5. Enter a name and optional description.

  6. (Optional) Add tags

    • Tap to add from existing tags or type to create new ones.

  7. Tap Save.

Duration

Use this for things that have a start and end time
(e.g., nap, workout, meditation session, deep work block).

  1. From Record, tap the compose button.

  2. Under Selected Data, tap Select Data

  3. You can choose to add pre-built Data Tracks or create a new one by tapping the plus (+) icon on the bottom right.

  4. Select Duration as the type.

  5. Enter a name and optional description.

  6. (Optional) Add tags.

  7. Tap Save.

When you record it, you’ll set start and end times.

Number

Use this for anything you measure with a numeric value
(e.g., caffeine mg, steps, pain 0–10, hours studied).

  1. From Record, tap the compose button.

  2. Under Selected Data, tap Select Data

  3. You can choose to add pre-built Data Tracks or create a new one by tapping the plus (+) icon on the bottom right.

  4. Select Number as the type.

  5. Enter a name and optional description.

  6. Choose:

    • A measurement type (what this number represents), and

    • A unit of measurement (e.g., mg, cups, hours).

  7. (Optional) Set a default value if you often log the same number.

  8. (Optional) Add tags.

  9. Tap Save.

Scale

Use this for ratings
(e.g., energy level, stress, mood, focus, pain).

  1. From Record, tap the compose button.

  2. Under Selected Data, tap Select Data

  3. You can choose to add pre-built Data Tracks or create a new one by tapping the plus (+) icon on the bottom right.

  4. Select Scale as the type.

  5. Enter a name and optional description.

  6. Choose your scale style:

    • Emoji scale, or

    • Color scale.

  7. Customize:

    • The order of values (e.g., 1–5), and

    • The icons or colors used.

  8. (Optional) Set a default value if you often log the same value.

  9. (Optional) Add tags.

  10. Tap Save.

Yes/No

Use this for simple binary questions
(e.g., Did I drink alcohol today?, Did I exercise?, Did I take meds?).

  1. From Record, tap the compose button.

  2. Under Selected Data, tap Select Data

  3. You can choose to add pre-built Data Tracks or create a new one by tapping the plus (+) icon on the bottom right.

  4. Select Yes/No as the type.

  5. Enter a name and optional description.

  6. (Optional) Choose a default value (Yes or No).

  7. (Optional) Add tags.

  8. Tap Save.

Once you’ve created Data Tracks, anything you record will show up in your Timeline, ready to be layered with your sleep, activity, and other data so you can actually see what’s going on.
